Who Builds the Future? Talent and Capability for the Next Financial System
Add to calendar

About This Session
Financial sovereignty depends on more than owning infrastructure. Countries also need people capable of designing, operating, regulating and securing it. Across emerging markets, technical specialists often move toward larger financial and technology hubs, while regulators compete with private firms for expertise in fields that are changing rapidly. The challenge becomes even greater when systems begin connecting across jurisdictions and require professionals who understand multiple regulatory, technical and market environments. The roundtable asks which capabilities a country cannot afford to outsource permanently, how regulators and financial institutions can retain scarce technical talent, and which partnerships between central banks, universities and industry have the potential to build that capability at scale.

What Makes Innovation Scale? Regulation, Capital and Trust in Emerging Markets
RoundtableOpen
About this session
Many promising financial companies do not fail because the product is weak. They fail between early proof and meaningful scale. Growth capital becomes harder to secure, institutional partners hesitate to integrate with younger firms, and entering each new market can require rebuilding relationships, compliance processes and distribution from scratch. This roundtable focuses on that scale gap. It asks which forms of capital are missing after the early stages, what would make banks and other large institutions more willing to partner with growth-stage providers, and which shared infrastructure or market-access mechanisms could reduce the cost of expanding across emerging markets.

A Different Financial Future: What Emerging Markets Can Shape, Share and Scale
Forum StageOpen
About this session
If emerging markets can build stronger domestic financial infrastructure, connect it across borders and reduce unnecessary dependence on external intermediaries, the impact goes far beyond payments. It changes how trade is settled, how capital moves, how small businesses reach markets, how governments exercise monetary and regulatory authority, and how regions relate economically to one another. The closing plenary steps back from the architecture itself to examine what this shift could mean at scale. It asks where greater financial autonomy could materially change economic outcomes, which forms of regional cooperation could create the greatest shared value, and what new risks or concentrations of power could emerge alongside that progress. The discussion looks ahead to the financial system these choices could produce over the next decade, and what role emerging markets can play in shaping it rather than simply adapting to it.
